At the beginning of my third year, we had to recreate an object by the Italian designer Enzo Mari. The object we chose was the ‘Serie di ferri saldati’ from 1958. It is a series of welded metal table objects such as trays, small bowls, or flower vases.
These objects exhibit a certain simplicity in their geometry, mostly consisting of triangles assembled together. Mari brings these mineral objects to life with irregular and unique welds. However, these objects are quite complex in their creation process. We learned that it is a skill full of imperfections and surprises.
In our drawings, we wanted to highlight the duality of the object: the precise geometry of the pieces being assembled by totally free-form welding, something unique and almost fluid.
