The project is located around the Engros market in Zurich. Our objective is to improve accessibility and give a more human scale to this large industrial building, with a particular focus on the issue of thresholds. Two interesting qualities of the site are its relationship with the railway tracks and the truck-accessible platform, hence the idea of drawing a diagonal line towards the rails and playing with the different levels.
The plan proposes two pairs of houses connected by platforms, separated by diagonals representing the street and an adaptable triangular pavilion. The community houses offer two common spaces, the living room and the kitchen, separated by the apartments. The living room, positioned within the diagonals, creates a connection with the street, while the kitchen faces that of the opposite building. The exterior platforms provide a large garden, a communal space shared by all.
Finally, the apartment typologies follow the desire to improve thresholds, designed in three layers transitioning from public to private.
