The beginning of my second year focused on the analysis of vestibules in Trieste. The one I worked on was the Palazzo della Biblioteca Civica, built in the early 19th century by architect Pietro Nobile, in a neoclassical style.
The experience during our visit was unique because we were not allowed access to part of the vestibule, which influenced the way we perceived the space.
To us, the vestibule appeared in two distinct parts. The first: renovated, cold, empty, and artificial; and the second: mysterious, forbidden, yet authentic. In both parts, we noticed disconnections. Therefore, we decided to highlight in our drawing composition the dislocation that we felt.
In order to move forward with projects, we had to extract a specific element from the vestibule. I chose to focus on these different volumes—two opposing and disconnected worlds, linked by a transitional space. The model thus aims to conceptualize the creation of spaces through other spaces offset from one another.
